October 21 Mtg hosted @ CDAC Topic: Catholic/ Evangelical Dialogue

Dialogue between Catholics & Evangelicals

More than 12 million Canadians identify as Roman Catholics. Hundreds of Catholic parishes are found from coast to coast in our nation. There are more than 95,000 Roman Catholics in the Saskatoon Diocese. As significant as these numbers are; the evangelical response to and connection with Roman Catholic people has been quite wide ranging.

For the past three years, ten evangelical leaders from various churches throughout our city have been spending time with a number of Roman Catholics working out a joint statement that identifies areas of common ground, key differences, and then ways we can work together. Our next Saskatoon Evangelical Minister’s Fellowship (SEMF) meeting will be about this dialogue and what has been learned along the way.

Here are the details for our October meeting….
THEME: Catholic – Evangelical Dialogue

September 16th SEMF Fall Kick off Luncheon “We Need Each Other”

 We Need Each Other!

1 Corinthians 12:20-21(NKJ)” But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

The fact that the church is described as a ‘body’ is far more than just a word picture provided by the Apostle Paul & other writers of the New Testament. Jesus Christ called us to function together as His people much the way our human body operates. As individual members of His church, we have many different callings, purposes and personalities, and yet we’re all part of the same body.

Paul words are so very important for church leaders to consider as I invite you to our first Saskatoon Evangelical Minister’s Fellowship (SEMF) meeting in this new school/church year. Let me share a couple of thoughts about two things I see in these verses these that relate to Christian leadership in our city and our relationships with one another.

First of all, I need You. The very words are hard for some to even say or think, because we may not want to be seen as being weak or in great need. Often leaders like to portray themselves as strong and invincible, not in need of anything. Sometimes leaders carry this attitude in regards to their churches or ministries; feeling that they as a church really do not need anyone else, so fellowship with other leaders in our city isn’t necessary or a valuable use of their time. The reality is, we’re a body and we need each other; as leaders, as churches, and as ministries.

The other side of this coin is that You need Me. We may be reluctant to ever say something like this in the fear that we’ll be seen as self-centered or egotistical. The reality is that God created us both to need and to be needed. Without both of these dynamics in place, the body isn’t all that it can or should be. Our first SEMF meeting of this new church year will touch on these basic values of having an organization in place to foster relationships between ministry leaders.
